Bauchi — President Goodluck Jonathan has restated the commitment of his administration to improve the welfare of the health workers in the country , so as to motivate them in delivering effective and efficient health service to the people.
The President, who Spoke through his Minister of state for health, Dr Mohammed Ali Pate in an interview with Journalists at stake holder's consultative meeting in Bauchi , assured that the federal government, state and local government were working together to improve healthcare in the country.
According to him, "we are in Bauchi to exchange ideas with the state and local government authorities as well as other health personnel to ensure effective service delivery to the citizens especially those at the rural areas. It is important to us to always talk with the state governments who are the the main savior of primary health care especially on the issue of maternal and child mortality in order to save the lives of our mothers and children".

He however decried a situation where some medical personnel in the country treat their jobs with laxity, noting that some emergency cases at the hospitals which required prompt medical attention, had been left undone .
Dr. Ali Pate commended Bauchi state government in its effort to transform health sector in the state, saying that one of the most important dividends of democracy any government can give to the people, is to ensure that the health of its citizens is properly taken care of.
Speaking on the outbreak of meningitis in the country, Dr Ali Pate said that the disease has reduced in Nigeria this year.
He declared, "Nigeria has recorded less than one thousand cases of meningitis this year when compared to last two years has reduced because in the last two years we recorded fifty thousand cases".
